Mercedes-Benz NXT’s NFT Debut: “Maschine”

Mercedes-Benz NXT, the digital innovation arm of the iconic automaker, has recently announced its entry into the non-fungible token (NFT) market with the launch of its first collection, “Maschine”. This collection is a collaboration with renowned artist Harm van den Dorpel and Fingerprints DAO, a respected group of art collectors. “Maschine” explores themes of movement, speed and perception through generative art, offering a unique perspective on these concepts.

The “Maschine” collection will be available exclusively through Fingerprints DAO’s website via a Dutch auction. This unique auction format gradually lowers the item’s price until a buyer is found. The auction is scheduled to start on June 7 and will feature 1,000 unique chips (Ethereum-based tokens). Each piece displays a captivating radial pattern of complex and ever-changing illusions inspired by the cart-wheel effect.

The Dutch auction for “Maschine” will allow buyers who paid more than the final auction price to claim a refund equal to the difference between the purchase price and the final sale price. This discounting process will be performed trustlessly using the auction contract, and participants will be able to observe how much of a discount they are looking for as the price drops during the auction period.

In a recent Twitter thread, Mercedes-Benz NXT also shared its plans for its first three core collections. Developed by creative studio 0xNXT, these collections will feature official Mercedes-Benz digital objects and will explore the brand’s design heritage. As mentioned, the first core collection (“Maschine”) focuses on generative art. The second core collection will be awarded exclusively to a select few top Mercedes-Benz customers, with each of the 1,886 collectibles to be minted at top customer events. The third core collection will embark on a journey through Mercedes-Benz’s design heritage, with digital collectibles created by the Mercedes-Benz design team.
