Manchester Storm & Locker Token Announces NFT Partnership

Manchester Storm NFTs will be broadcast live on Locker on 22nd September

Ice hockey behemoths – Manchester Storm – have announced a strategic partnership with Locker Token in a press release earlier today. The partnership is defined on Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs), as the club looks to use Locker technology to create in-game “moments” on the blockchain. The Storm are now the second team to partner with lockers for the Hockey NFTs in a matter of weeks.

Sports Memorabilia Market moves to Web3

Manchester Storm, closely associated with football neighbors Manchester United, will launch a series of NFTs from 22 September onwards – with in-game announcements via the big screen and PA system showing the available NFTs to fans live during matches. The move is designed to give fans more ownership and a closer connection to the players, while preserving the highlights of the game through blockchain technology. Each NFT will be unique and include players, trading cards – and in-game events such as goals and player matches.

The sports memorabilia industry is estimated to be worth roughly $26 billion, but it’s been in a nascent state since its inception centuries ago — with physical items that can be damaged being the norm. Locker takes the memory market and migrates it to Web3 using the NFT Marketplace – accessible via a web app or iOS and Android applications. Users simply connect to their wallet and “coin” their chosen sports NFT within minutes.

Storm Mint will be in Home Game vs Flames

The first availability for Storm fans to purchase NFTs will be during the home game against Guildford Flames on Wednesday 21. Locker Token will equip the team with technology to create live NFTs in games, then made purchasable by fans using Ethereum. The coin price is rumored to be around $90 USD in ETH for the NFTs, with additional prices depending on rarity.

“We are delighted to welcome Manchester Storm to our roster. Their prominent role in the game of ice hockey speaks for itself. The Locker Token team is aggressively entering new teams on an almost weekly basis as we aim to give fans ownership of team moments through blockchain technology. The Manchester Storm partnership sees this become a reality for an entire fan base.”

The NFT coin is reportedly accessible to all crypto expertise levels, to provide mainstream access to emerging technologies. The partnership will allow patrons of “Planet Ice” to perhaps engage with cryptocurrencies and blockchain for the very first time.

“We are very excited to be the first Elite League team to launch their own NFT collection with Locker Token. The sports industry is a fast-moving market, and with web 3.0 on the horizon, we are excited to continue our off-ice- innovation in a way that will draw in more supporters.”

Manchester Storm joins Rögle BK on the Locker Token roster, who also went live with their own NFT series last week. Each respective fanbase has its own section on the Locker website and respective applications, where fans can browse and purchase NFTs according to their favorite player picks, or in-game highlights. Each coin collection includes trading cards from players, with different rarities encoded in the respective NFT metadata.

Locker is rumored to be working on bringing more teams and sports to its portfolio, with another team to be announced next week.
