FC Barcelona launches its first NFT collection in collaboration with Plastiks
Plastic waste is everywhere. It is found in the deepest ocean trenches and on top of the highest mountains. Eight million tonnes are dumped into the sea every year, underscoring the need to improve the plastic economy and find ways to promote a more responsible society when it comes to waste and the impact it has on preserving the environment. FC Barcelona and Plastiks have joined in a partnership that will allow the recycling of at least 1,000,000 kilograms of plastic, equivalent to 35,000 one-litre plastic bottles, which will also avoid the use of 800,000 liters of oil to produce these bottles.
FC Barcelona is one of the most followed teams in the world, with one of the largest communities on social networks of any sports team. With more than 400 million followers across its various accounts, it is a leader in engagement in the global football industry. Therefore, the club is eager to strengthen its community with sustainability solutions based on Web 3.0, in this case aiming to help reduce waste in the environment by combining Barça’s NFT vision with a positive environmental impact.
To this end, FC Barcelona and Plastiks are proud to present an exclusive collection of NFTs in digital card format. Unleash your passion features a total of 3,000 stackable animal-themed digital artworks, each helping to remove 35,000 kilograms of plastic from our planet.
8,000 kilos of plastic waste per match
More than 8,000 kilograms of plastic waste is produced in a football match. With this first collection, FC Barcelona and Plastiks contribute to a reduction in plastic pollution in an amount equivalent to the waste from 4 football matches. Sustainability is actually one of the three pillars of the strategic plan for 2021-2026, which addresses various areas: economy and governance, sport, social and environmental. In line with this approach, the club works to promote sustainable development in all its areas of activity and thus achieve some of the best reference certifications in sustainability.
Our planet is facing a period of climate change caused by human activities, and the club is committed to promoting projects that can have a positive impact on the environment. This collaboration with Plastiks and the launch of the exclusive Unleash your passion collection is a further example of this.

In addition to the privilege of being the sole owner of the piece of digital art, designed exclusively in collaboration between FC Barcelona and Plastiks, the acquisition of one of the NFTs is also a statement of support for initiatives in support of caring for the environment. Animal-themed digital cards from the Unleash Your Passion collection are now available for $30 each, through Plastik’s marketplace specializing in digital items related to sustainability.
