Calbee Teams Up With Astar To Launch Tasty ‘NFT Chips’

Calbee Inc., Japan’s leading manufacturer of snacks, has announced the launch of its new promotional campaign, “NFT Chips”, on Astar network. As part of this promotion, consumers who purchase a pack of Usu-Shio, Consomme-Punch or Nori-Shio potato chips can claim a free, evolving Potato NFT by participating in an origami-like game called “Ori-pake.”

To get a Potato NFT in development, players must follow the folding instructions on the package, similar to origami, and confirm completion by scanning it with Calbee’s “Lbee Program” app. Every time a new Ori-pake is registered after eating a bag of chips, the NFT will evolve. Participants who register five Ori packs will witness their NFT become one of many characters from the virtual world “Jagaverse”. In addition, one hundred lucky winners who get a “gold rating” in their Wappa wallet will receive six free bags of crisps. In addition, people with a fully developed Potato NFT will have access to new digital experiences in the coming days.

Calbee’s partnership with DataGateway was instrumental in making the NFT Chips promotion possible at Astar. Together, they developed the Wappa data wallet with Hakhudo and CryptoGames, allowing customers to own and manage their evolving NFTs. The Wappa wallet operates on the fundamental belief that personal data rightfully belongs to the individuals who generate it, not the companies that want to exploit it. This ensures true data sovereignty, where all information stored in the Wappa wallet can only be shared with individual companies anonymously and only with the consent of the wallet owner.

Calbee is partnering with Astar Network for its NFT campaign

Astar Network, the multi-chain smart contract platform, supports the NFT Chips campaign. With Astar Network’s cross-consensus messaging (XCM) and cross-virtual machine (XVM) capabilities, developers can create decentralized applications (dApps) using both EVM and WASM smart contracts while achieving true interoperability. In addition, Astar’s Build2Earn model enables developers to earn money through a dApp staking mechanism for the code and dApps they create.

Sota Watanabe, CEO of Astar Network, said: “I am very excited to see this use case on Astar Network. Calbee’s chips are probably the most consumed in Japan; I am sure everyone knows this product. Through this campaign, I would like to create a future where Japanese people use Astar Network without know what blockchain is. We will continue to do our best to achieve mass adoption.”

Astar Network has emerged as a leader in the NFT craze taking over Japan, as many of the country’s top brands embrace the possibilities of Web3. Astar was named the most popular blockchain in Japan by the Japanese Blockchain Association in 2022 and recently topped Coingecko’s list of Japan’s most popular coins. Last year, Astar partnered with 329 of Japan’s top brands to launch a marketing campaign to promote the growth of Japan’s Web3 ecosystem. One of the most recent collaborations was with Tokyu Railways, where they distributed free NFTs to train passengers.

Calbee NFT Chips promotion at Astar is expected to generate significant consumer interest and further increase the popularity of NFTs in Japan. Through this partnership, Calbee and Astar aim to increase the awareness and use of blockchain technology in Japan, while offering a fun and engaging way for customers to interact with the brand.
