For any company, conducting background checks on a candidate is a cumbersome and time-consuming process, which is usually outsourced to third-party agencies. Now, an Indian IT company CSM Tech has designed a process that eases the process of background validation of employees, especially their work experience, according to a statement.

Titled ‘ProofChain’, this unique, immutable and tamper-proof solution enables third-party verifiers to validate the work experience of candidates who served at CSM Technologies across all locations of the company’s operations, the statement said.

CSM Tech is an Indian IT consulting company with an active business footprint in Africa, North America and Dubai.

“CSM Tech … is rolling out this blockchain-based credentialing system for employees at a time when the IT landscape is plagued by increasing incidences of submitting fake credentials like academic qualifications and work experience to pick up job offers at reputable companies. A few months back, the best IT -consulting firm Accenture for the involuntary attrition (a euphemism for firing) of many employees who had tampered with their work history certificates, the statement said.

It added that amid the talent crunch and fears of skilled digital talent joining rival companies, IT firms typically onboard candidates first and do the authentication later.

The company said the system is developed on HyperLedger Fabric, an open-source blockchain platform. Since the employee login system is underpinned by blockchain technology, there is no possibility of tampering or changing employee data or records. The company has already moved work experience data and other records of around 3,500 of its former employees to the blockchain platform.

Under this system, the third-party verifier is given a login ID and password. The HR department of CSM Tech takes a call on whether to approve or reject a request from a third-party verifier. The process is completed within seven to 15 days.

Blockchain is the go-to technology for data security and record validation. I am confident that with this blockchain -enabled system, we will not only facilitate the verification process for employees, but set a new standard for IT companies to adopt blockchain platforms at scale for on-boarding talent with verified credentials.”

The ProofChain system is integrated with CSM Tech’s ERP system. To date, the blockchain-powered platform has received more than 100 requests to verify employee records. The third party agencies have executed verification mandates on the CSM ProofChain platform for leading IT recruiters such as TCS, Infosys, MindTree, Accenture and IBM.
