Philippine Blockchain Week: Web3 Thought Leaders Gather in Manila

Metaverse and NFTs have been hot topics in the US since the start of 2021. I was curious to see what the rest of the world thought of these burgeoning industries. That’s when I stumbled upon Philippine Blockchain Week and here’s what I found out.

Here in the US, every major news channel or media company has covered some form of coverage in the past year with big brands and celebrities. Brands are quickly adopting NFTs for marketing and brand loyalty purposes, as are creators, such as the producers of a recent independent film.

What is Philippine Blockchain Week?

DITO CME Chief Operating Officer Donald Lim is one of the conveners of Philippine Blockchain Week 2022. He confirmed the scope of the event which will be attended by innovators, entrepreneurs and disruptors of blockchain technology.

Over a hundred international and local speakers, including some of the most influential names from Web2 and Web3, will meet here this November for the first Philippine Blockchain Week. Tickets for the event, which will be held from November 28 to December 4 at Newport World Resorts Manila, are now available here.

Recognized thought leaders

Among the guest speakers from various countries confirmed to attend the event are Ian Utile, co-producer of NFT NYC and co-founder of IP3; John Kraski, Co-Founder of GMW3, NFT Heat Podcast; Sandra H, CCO and co-founder of Metapolis; Anthony Francisco, Creative Director of Dolphin Entertainment; Kate Hancock, CEO of Metaverse XYZ; and Vilma Matilla, founder of 5ire; Val Wise, one of the builders of the first Metaverse Realities in the world.

“We are excited to host these global leaders in blockchain technology. We can learn a lot from these international experts and thought leaders as the Philippines begins its journey towards becoming the Web3 capital of Southeast Asia,” he said.

What to expect

Prior to its official opening, Philippine Blockchain Week 2022 will launch an NFT Gallery at Newport World Resorts. On November 28, there will be an invitation-only “Welcome Night” at the Hilton Grand Bar, while ticket holders will party the night away at House Manila.

For the conference itself from 29 November to 1 December, the timetable will be divided into three themes: Blockchain, Fintech and Metaverse. All these activities will be held in the Main Conference Hall in the Marriott Grand Ballroom

There will be concurrent events, including a VC-startup matchmaking, and an NFT and Gaming Expo that will take place across Newport World Resorts. Several after parties and networking events will be held at various hotels and partner venues around the city.

On December 2, the first Philippine Block Awards gala night to recognize movers and shakers in the blockchain world will be held at the Sheraton Hotel.

On December 3 and 4, Philippine Blockchain Week 2022 will have “Block X” after parties.

“This event is for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in Web3. We want to show how this technology is inclusive and beneficial for everyone, Lim said.

Multi-industry partnership

This is the first time a multi-industry partnership has come forward to bring blockchain to a major global event happening in the country.

Among these groups are the Fintech Alliance, Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD), Management Association of the Philippines (MAP), International Council of Small Business PH (ICSB), IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), Internet & Mobile Marketing Association of the Philippines (IMMAP), JCI Manila, Rotary District 3830, NFT Philippines, Alliance Global Group, Inc., Women in Blockchain, and more.
