NFTs and gaming could have been considered two different elements of paths that would never cross, but the evolving landscape of gaming and the demands expected of NFTs seem to suggest a future that would be completely at odds with the status quo which existed until recently.

Gaming and NFTs have become an inseparable duo due to the symbiotic benefits they offer.

Gaming has been in Vogue for quite some time. The years 2020 and 2021 can be considered as the golden age of NFTs and it is made clear by soaring NFT prices. It was common to see NFT sales in the millions if not billions of dollars.

The tremors that rocked the crypto landscape have had their shock waves affect the NFT space as well. This may have surfaced, leading to a slight downward spike in NFT consumption and values. However, this was a blessing in disguise because it helped people separate amazing NFT projects from mediocre ones.

One of the most obvious tools that NFTs could explore was in the gaming space. The infusion of NFTs into the gaming world served as the silver bullet, especially for players who had no qualms about spending their money on gaming assets that had a limited shelf life.

The year 2022, and a small part of the last quarters of 2021, can be considered the era to usher NFTs into play.

The year 2023 is expected to be the stage where NFT games grow out of their adolescence into maturity. At this crucial stage, these are the NFT gaming trends to watch for in the year 2023.

Mainstream gaming will become more NFT-centric

It’s only been a few days since Sony filed its patents for the use of digital collectibles in its console gaming ecosystem. PlayStation is one of the faces of the towering totem pole of gaming, and if they venture into the NFT space, it’s a clear sign that the gaming landscape is changing.

As mainstream gaming companies get into NFTs, (we’re not just talking about console manufacturers, but game development companies as well) you can definitely expect the die-hard classic gamers, also known as gaming purists, to become more familiar with the concepts of NFTs and the benefits they gives to the Table.

Brands will see games as a metaverse platform for branding

It is not new for brands to enter sports arenas. No, we are not talking about sports brands like Nike, but completely unrelated brands like Emirates or Samsung that sponsor football teams. As many games will move into the metaverse, you can expect brands to mark a significant presence in the virtual digital universe.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see full-fledged metaverse sports tournaments happening with brand collaborations and sponsorships. This new digital platform will also give brands an opportunity to improve their visibility, especially among a crowd that is digitally aware and accessible!

P2E will become more prominent as a livelihood

Until recently, games could be described as engaging, entertaining and exciting, but certainly not rewarding. At least not in the financial sense. However, the infusion of NFTs and games has resulted in the creation of a new arena for gaming and an avenue for monetization called P2E.

We have seen P2E games impact the livelihoods of people in the Southeast Asian region. We have also seen the metaverse P2E cricket game, Meta Cricket League by Jump.trade, grow tremendously in popularity and adoption in India and other regions of the planet where cricket is popular. With this trend in place, it is quite likely that many people will engage and earn with P2E games.

Just like how being a “content creator” wouldn’t have been a serious profession around ten years ago, but is a lucrative profession now, being a “gamer” will soon be considered a serious profession!

Interdependent gaming ecosystems will begin to sprout

If we are to fully exploit NFTs and their permanence, it is important to create an ecosystem where the benefits can be constructively exploited. One of the ways this can happen is to have games where one NFT can be used in multiple games.

On the surface, it can seem counterproductive because a single NFT that has tools in multiple games can dampen sales progress. However, it is also likely to increase the appeal of NFT, which may indirectly help increase sales volume through increased use and penetration.

Last word

The year 2023 has all the credentials and qualifications to be annus mirabilis that the gaming world needed. If calculated extrapolations and the measured intuitions of industry experts are to be believed, it will be one of the most transformative years for gaming, for NFTs and for NFT gaming!
