Donald Trump supporters angered by NFT announcement: It’s a ‘turn off’

Former President Donald Trump was mercilessly mocked for his “big announcement” this week, with even his supporters expressing disappointment at the unveiling of the NFT.

“This is not good. We are facing a threat to civilization from far-left Marxist extremists. Teasing NFT cards as an important announcement is not the kind of fight people want to see now. These are dark times. Love the guy, but this is flipping many of,” Robby Starbuck, GOP congressional candidate for Tennessee’s 5th District, tweeted.

On Thursday, Trump revealed that his “big announcement” was that he was releasing a limited edition set of digital cards valued at $99 each. He described them as “very much like a baseball card, but hopefully a lot more exciting.”

But while the former president seemed excited about the NFTs, many of his supporters took to social media to describe feeling cheated by Trump’s announcement.

“I feel betrayed by Trump today. What a disappointment,” @luckycharmz44 wrote. “Trading card? Really?”

Daniel Bostic, who previously served as a congressional aide, called the announcement “a punch in the face to Trump’s base” which he said “expected a candidacy, a VP announcement, action on the J6 prisoners, lawsuits, ANY real action.”

“Instead, he’s doing NFTs,” Bostic tweeted. “DeSantis went up 3 points today.”

Some of Trump’s supporters said the announcement was enough to push them over to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has emerged as a front-runner for the 2024 GOP nomination against Trump. DeSantis has not officially launched a presidential bid.

“So, this was seriously Trump’s big announcement. What a massive disappointment. I’ve had my doubts about Trump for a while, but I think this might be the final nail in the coffin. I’m going to team DeSantis now,” wrote @1EaglePatriot.

“It’s time for Trump to get behind DeSantis,” @creditannie so. “This confirms it for me – love him, appreciate everything he’s done, but it’s time to step aside and help us get behind someone that we can all support.”

Many began speculating about what Trump’s “big announcement” would be after the former president teased Thursday’s unveiling on Truth Social on Wednesday. Some hoped he would announce his choice as a candidate or make news about the 2024 campaign.

On Thursday, Lavern Spicer, Republican congressional candidate for Florida’s 24th district, while a big fan of Trump, said: “I need more than this from the leading presidential candidate for 2024. Don’t play with our emotions.”

“I’m a Trump fan, but the big reveal was very disappointing. It has no substantial substance to get re-elected president,” @jackie_mcmillon reverberation. “I am concerned that Trump, even if he succeeded on many levels, has a lot of baggage. Our country is under siege from such depravity and evil that we must choose carefully.”

Newsweek contacted Trump for comment.
