Berlin Blockchain Week – Summary

Berlin Blockchain Week – Summary

This year’s Berlin Blockchain Week took place September 12-18. Many events were held and were attended by a variety of newcomers, developers, investors and more. These events had many different focuses, but collectively illustrated the current state of Web3.

During the week, the Lisk team had the opportunity to organize several events. These included:

  • Blockchain in use
  • Blockchain day 2
  • Support builders from A to Z
  • CV Summit, which took place in Zug

Blockchain in use

The Blockchain in Use conference by Berchain aimed to provide details on how blockchain technology can be applied to specific industries, exploring specific use cases for each. These use cases included for creative industries, finance and interoperability.

Members from Lisk, Unstoppable Finance, Pekuna, TheStandard.io, Yoonaverse, Another World and many others attended the event. Alessadro Ricottone, Lisk’s head of research, hosted the interoperability track. The session began with a short welcome: “Interoperability is something we are very used to – computers and the internet are interoperable. Interoperability, which is generally the ability of different systems to exchange data and information, is very important.

Partick Sibetz of the Algorand Foundation then hosted a keynote. Use cases were presented by Augusto Elesbao, lead developer at Philabs, and Sylvain Vittecoq, CEO and founder of FileChain. The conference then continued with a panel discussion with Bruce Pon, Founder of Ocean Protocol, Leo Hilse, Founder of STYLE Protocol, and Zoe Meckbach, Council Member of the Phala Network.

Blockchain interoperability was presented as a critical component of future networked computing systems. The panelists all agreed that the role of interoperability is crucial for further use of blockchain technology to take place.

Blockchain day 2

Blockchain Day 2 took place at Lisk Center Berlin. To start the event, there was a panel discussion on various interoperability solutions from the blockchain industry. It was organized by Lisk’s Senior Marketing Manager, Arin Soleymani, with participants from RBF, Sifchain and Web3 Foundation.

The discussion focused mostly on the current state of available interoperability solutions, bridges, atomic swaps and cross-chain attestation. Decentralization and the security of the current bridges, bridge monetization and token fungibility were also topics of discussion.
The panel was followed by a presentation from Lisk’s head of research, Jan Hackfeld. Jan’s presentation focused on the components of Lisk’s interoperability solution.

Support builders from A to Z

The Support Builders from AZ event was organized by CV Labs and sponsored by ConsenSyS and RedAlpine. The main focus of this event was blockchain funding.

Lisk’s senior marketing manager, Arin Soleymani, gave an overview of the Lisk Grant program and applications within the Lisk ecosystem. Arin demonstrated how the application process works, the various milestones that need to be reached, and how the Lisk SDK has been used to build these applications.

CV Labs also gave a presentation on their incubation program. This program has helped many organizations to expand their global market. You can visit their official incubation page for more information about the program.

CV Summit

Apart from all Berlin Blockchain Week events, Lisk also attended the annual CV Summit in Zug. The team had the opportunity to work with organizers and learn more about institutional investments within the blockchain space.

The Lisk team played a key role in the conference itself. Naureen Mustafa, Lisk’s Head of Exchange Development and Manu Nelamane Siddalingegowda, Lisk’s Head of Platform Development, were on the conference stage to share Lisk-related insights.

Manu talked about technical aspects of Web3 during the panel discussion, which concentrated on main ideas around blockchain development. He explained how collaboration between different protocols can improve the overall usability and security of blockchain space. Manu stated:

“It is possible to solve the blockchain trilemma. You should use interoperability for that. And that’s how it’s done at Lisk.”

Naureen’s presentation was about “DeFi potential beyond speculation.” During her keynote speech, she explained how DeFi can be used for things other than investment purposes in the future. She also demonstrated how Lisk, along with blockchain apps built using the Lisk SDK, could contribute to the growth of decentralized finance.

Conclusion

Berlin Blockchain Week was a great success with many opportunities for different people to learn more about Lisk and Web3 in general. The Lisk team can’t wait for next year’s event.
