World of Women reveals the utility of WoW capacitors NFTs

Quick take:

  • The NFTs were sent to WoW and WoW Galaxy holders earlier this month.
  • On August 31, holders can begin transforming capacitors by redeeming OnCyber virtual homes.
  • This initiative is the basis for taking the WoW community beyond PFPs.

World of Women (WoW) today revealed the utility of WoW Capacitor NFTs. After the WoW community solved multiple Morse Code clues on Twitter, Discord and even a Times Square poster over the past few weeks, WoW holders received 10,000 Blue Capacitors while WoWG Holders received 21,738 Green Capacitors as part of a surprise activation.

Starting August 31st, holders of the capacitor NFTs can decide what to do with their digital assets. They can start transforming them into redeeming virtual homes on Web3’s world-building engine and virtual reality platform, OnCyber, or save NFTs for the next season.

A blue capacitor will grant holders access to the Origin Residence, while a green capacitor to the Nebula Quarters. Holders of both NFTs will also get a portal to link both places to each other. To transform the capacitors, the holders must enter WoWverse, a virtual world developed by the team behind World of Women.

The capacitors mark another step for WoW’s expansion into the metaverse. According to WoW, the usefulness of the capacitor NFTs is essential to take the WoW community beyond PFPs (profile pictures) to personally create and explore the nature of digital identities.

The NFTs secured in season one by Capacitors will also be a fundamental component of future WoW and gameplay and have an important, ongoing role in building digital identity in the WoW universe. The WoWverse lore has expanded beyond the 10,000 NFT PFPs in the first collection, and now includes the Assembly of Women, Nova Gaïa (a planet), time travel, and a currently unnamed villain.

“WoW has built a brand that allows people to represent themselves digitally, through PFPs,” said Shannon Snow, WoW COO. “As the first female-centric NFT brand to break through to the mainstream, we couldn’t be more excited about the next iteration and expansion of WoWverse, which starts the opportunity to build and strengthen your digital identity in new, innovative ways.”

Both Origin Residence and Nebula Quarters were designed by WoW CEO & Chief Creative Officer Yam Karkai, and created in collaboration with OnCyber. In this partnership, Capacitor NFTs will be transformed into ERC 1155 tokens that can be accessed and displayed via users’ respective unique OnCyber URLs.

Anyone who owns either an Origin Residence or Nebula Quarters can go to oncyber.io/create (while logged into the wallet containing the capacitor NFT) to start setting up their virtual home. After a space is set up, it will have its own dedicated URL that the user can customize.

There will be more Capacitor NFT drops, which will build on the virtual home concept as each Capacitor will unlock new elements for users to create, customize and establish their digital identity.

OnCyber enables artists and collectors to display their digital collectibles in a fully immersive VR world for free and partnered with Rarible in February to sell NFTs in the metaverse.
