Upcoming Drops: March 6-12

Let’s face it: the NFT space is moving very quickly. Considering how quickly things can change in the metaverse, a week in NFT might as well be a month IRL.

Don’t get us wrong – the more people on board the space, the better. But with the constant influx of great art and ideas, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with all the news, launches, and general happenings.

Well, you can put the days of endless Twitter and Discord scrolling behind you as we compile a weekly list of upcoming NFT drops you definitely don’t want to miss. Here’s what to look for this week.

Jurassic Playerz

What: 49 hand-drawn NFTs

When: March 6 at 12:00 PM ET

Where: MakersPlace

Why: This debut small series collection by world-renowned Disney artist James C. Mulligan presents the first 49 of 98 hand-drawn dinosaur figures from Mulligan’s imaginative Jurassic Playerz project. The theory behind the project states that “from the wilds of the Jurassic Valley of the Hawaiian Islands, dinosaurs have returned from extinction.” But instead of wreaking havoc, they instead hope to blend into today’s society.

My body, my business

WHO: Sotheby’s x Unicorn DAO

What: 31 NFT auctions

When: 7 March at 2 p.m. ET

Where: Sothebys.com

Why: Curated by Unicorn DAO co-founder and Pussy Riot creator Nadya Tolokonnikova, the My Body My Business auction features works by traditional and digitally native female artists. Each uses their art as a medium to advocate for and explore a wide range of topics related to women’s rights. Presented as an event to kick off Women’s History Month, a portion of the proceeds from these sales will benefit reproductive health organizations, including Planned Parenthood.

NFT Africa

What: 8,080 PFP NFTs

When: March 8 (announcement)

Where: WinFundNFT

Why: From the Women in Innovation Fund (WiNFUND) comes a philanthropic NFT project with thousands of African-inspired NFTs. The collection is made in collaboration with the Rwandan artist Christella Bijou and supported by TokenProof. After opening for minting, all proceeds from the project benefit female-led health startups. A shortlist of applicants who will receive corporate support will be announced during International Women’s Day on 8 March.

I am empowered

WHO: PowerOfWomenNFT x Manchester City

What: Five editions

When: March 8 at 7 a.m. ET

Where: Open sea

Why: I am EMPOWERED is a collaboration between the Power of Women NFT studio founded by Leah Ibrahim Sams and Manchester City Football Club. To celebrate International Women’s Day 2023, this unique collection depicts the passion and diversity of women in football that aims to inspire and empower future generations.

Why: Back at MakerSplace, Canada-based pixel artist Gutty Kreum presents three unique digital memories in a series that keeps nostalgia at the fore. Each depicting a location in Japan, these three pieces attempt to capture the essence of the summer season as digital memories of a past that never was.
