John Armstrong comes to Tequity with over 30 years of experience in the financial IT market

John is a highly respected senior leader in the BFSI market and most recently served as National Industry Lead for Financial Services at KPMG Canada where he was responsible for industry leadership in Canada of all services – audit, tax and advisory – across all segments – Banking and capital markets, insurance, asset management, private equity and pensions. Since taking up this role in 2016, John has overseen strong revenue growth with Canada be the fastest growing geography in KPMG’s global FS business.

John also served on KPMG’s Global Financial Services Leadership Team as well as the Global Banking and Capital Markets Leadership Team. He was a member of Global Fintech’s management team and one of the authors of KPMG’s highly regarded, semi-annual, Pulse of Fintech release.

John has worked as an advisor and consultant for the financial industry in Canada and globally for over thirty years. His focus during that time has been in the banking sector, with experience also in insurance, asset management and capital markets.

John’s expertise includes corporate and business unit strategy, including pre- and post-deal M&A support. John has deep experience in technology development and implementation and has led a number of large technology programs for his banking clients. He is also very experienced in cost transformation and customer analysis.

John also has deep experience in competitiveness and innovation and recently served on the Ontario Panel on Economic Growth and Prosperity. The panel focused on issues of competitiveness i Ontarioincluding innovation and policy-related analysis and recommendations.

Prior to joining KPMG, John served as Canadian Managing Director of Capco and prior to that as Managing Director of Financial Services at Accenture Canada. In both of these roles, John drove significant revenue growth relative to both the Canadian market and his global peers.

John has served on several NFP boards including the United Way of Oakville (where he was chairman for three years and led the merger of four United Ways into the United Way of Halton and Hamilton), Oakville Galleries and the Audit Committee of University of Toronto.

John received his Master of Business Administration from Harvard University with High Distinction, graduated as a Baker Scholar and received his Bachelor of Commerce, with Distinction from University of Toronto. He also has the ICD.D designation.
