South Park goes after cryptocurrency and Matt Damon once again, and compares Bitcoin to ‘Pipi Water’

A long-running animated comedy series has on several occasions mocked the volatility of cryptocurrencies. Now a new team made for the streaming film mocks the crypto industry and the celebrities who were used in advertising.

What happened: A new streaming special called “The Streaming Wars Part 2” from “South Park” takes on cryptocurrency.

The film is broadcast on the streaming platform Paramount + from Paramount Global FORPARAA.

According to Decrypt, the new film follows celebrities included Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon, Larry David and Naomi Osaka, which has promoted cryptocurrency.

The film mainly takes on Damon, who famously starred in a commercial for Crypto.com that had the slogan “wealth favors the brave.”

In the new movie, the ad from Crypto.com has been recreated, except that instead of holograms of familiar moments in history, there is now recycled water.

– We live in a severe drought. There is simply no choice anymore, says Damon in the film.

Instead of promoting Bitcoin BTC / USDDamon is now stepping on a completely different product.

Hi, my name is Matt Damon. You’ve heard me talk about the wonders of cryptocurrency, and now there’s a company that can provide us with the new source: Pipi Water!

The ad shows Damon watering his lawn with the new liquid, using it for showers and enjoying a pint to drink. Other celebrities also support the new product.

“The Streaming Wars Part 2” is the fourth TV movie for “South Park”.

Why it’s important: This is not the first time Damon has been the target of “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Damon was a featured character they wondered about in the movie “Team America: World Police.”

“South Park” also took on cryptocurrency and Bitcoin in the 2021 “South Park” special movie episode “Post COVID.” In a scene that showed the characters 40 years in the future, Stan was in a hotel and asked to pay with Bitcoin. The film aired on Paramount + on November 25, 2021.

“It’s the future, we’ve all decided that centralized banking is rigged, so we rely more on fly-by-night Ponzi schemes,” a clerk told Stan.

Damon was also referred to in an episode from 2022 called “Pajama Day” with one of the main character’s classmates saying, “My dad said he listened to Matt Damon and lost all his money.”

Bitcoin was traded for over $ 57,000 on November 25, 2021 when the program first referred to the cryptocurrency.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading for $ 20,947, making it an easy target for the comedy show.

Parker and Stone signed an agreement with Paramount in 2021 for another six seasons of “South Park” which also included the addition of 14 films for the Paramount + streaming platform. The duo said that new streaming platforms made it easier to create new film content for the show.

Paramount + is one of several streaming platforms that saw an increase in subscribers in the first quarter, a quarter that saw Netflix Inc NFLX report their first loss of subscribers in over 10 years.

Additional exclusive movies for well-known Paramount series added to Paramount + can help the streaming platform grow.

PARA price action: Paramount shares rose 4% to $ 25 on Friday.
