We need to build more use cases for Bitcoin – this is the message from Amor Maclang, the conference chair of the successful Philippine Fintech Festival. Maclang believes that with enough use cases, Bitcoin will become unshakable even in any “crypto” winter.

Maclang, who has led Digital Pilipinas since 2017, is one of the main organizers of the Philippines Fintech Festival, an event that brought together developers, investors, regulators, startup founders and the general public to celebrate the fast-growing Philippine fintech sector.

Speaking with CoinGeek Backstage’s Claire Celdran on the sidelines of the event, Maclang pointed out that the difference between a global currency like the dollar and a smaller national one is the use cases. With the USD being used to make payments in global trade, it is no surprise that most people will accept it despite their relationship with or perception of the US.

Likewise, Bitcoin needs to grow beyond being a niche currency, and the only way is to build enough use cases for it.

“What we as an industry must look for is to create more areas of use. What we need to do now that there is an ongoing ‘crypto winter’ is to build more use cases.”

Blockchain use cases must go beyond payments, she added. Although this was the first use case, and still the biggest today, blockchain is a revolutionary technology that could impact several other sectors.

“For the Philippines, blockchain can transform the economy. The technology can merge “our ability for technology adoption and content creation. We are prolific content creators. What we need to do now is take this propensity to create and overlay it with blockchain technology and become a NFT hub for blockchain content creators for the world,” Maclang told CoinGeek.
