Storytelling on the blockchain

PechaKucha, Inc., a social storytelling platform used by millions worldwide, announced today that it has created a story as an NFT.

Content creators, schools, businesses and government agencies worldwide license PechaKucha’s “20 images x 20 seconds” platform to share visual stories, information and concepts for inspired action. PechaKucha community organizers host live events in nearly 1,300 cities in 145 countries, with thousands of individual creators using PechaKucha’s social storytelling platform for digital conversations, sessions and chats.

In addition to its first NFT story, PechaKucha will also mint 2,020 pieces of unique, limited edition NFT collectibles to celebrate PechaKucha’s 20-year history, 20-slide x 20-second storytelling and the launch of its new website, mobile apps and revitalized creator platform .

PechaKucha CEO and co-founder Sean Smyth stated that:

“At PechaKucha, we think of NFTs as ‘digital art with benefits’, which reflects our approach to making complex things simpler. Marking the world’s first story and offering a collection of unique digital art with access to exclusive benefits celebrates our past while exploring the future of Web3. We showcase the versatility and utility of NFTs as a way to educate and empower the creative community that we serve.”

The PechaKucha NFT Collection is made from artist-designed posters from thousands of personal PK Night events spanning PechaKucha’s 20-year history. The NFTs have 30 color variations and eight icon positions that combine to create a variety of oddities.

A pre-minting period began on 26 July with public sales starting on 17 August. The PechaKucha NFTs will be sold for 0.09 ETH (Ethereum) and come with a number of additional benefits, including a one-year subscription to PK Pro, which allows users to build, share and monetize private communities and content. PechaKucha’s free version offers many of the same tools, including a new social audio feature, with the exception that content is only published publicly on pechakucha.com.

PechaKucha’s story-based NFT features co-founders Mark Dytham and Astrid Klein who tell the origin story of PechaKucha in a 20×20 presentation. Each frame of the video contains one of the collectable NFTs.

PechaKucha partnered with Ethereum for its first NFT project. The Ethereum network has transformed into an environmentally friendly proof of stake blockchain to drastically reduce power consumption. PechaKucha will direct a portion of all sales to offset 100% of the carbon emissions normally generated by minting NFTs.
