Mirna Mohammed, an Egyptian engineer presented a blockchain-based project that was created to monitor the VAT system prevalent in Oman.

Subsequently, Mirna’s Blockchain VAT accounting platform had been accepted by Oman’s Ministry of Higher Education and would be funded for its implementation.

Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that several Arab women from Oman and Saudi Arabia had entered the blockchain ecosystem and added value to the economy and society. The number of Arab women developing blockchain projects had increased in recent weeks.

In an interview, Mirna stated that her venture started with her father’s insistence on developing an accounting budget system using the latest technologies. She further said:

I chose Blockchain because it is one of the best technologies that allows the Government of Oman to review and supervise the accounting procedures of various companies, including their VAT information.

However, she stated that there were some obstacles in the way of developing the project. One of the major challenges was the lack of sufficient knowledge about blockchain technology in the Arab world. Mirna stated that the technology is still an unknown device to many.

However, Mirna assured that “Blockchain is the future” and spoke about the need to provide better platforms to the public in Oman to know more about the technology.
