NFT Whale lost $150k due to a stupid prank on ENS Domain

NFT Whale lost 0k due to a stupid prank on ENS Domain

The NFT community just saw someone fumble his bag in real time, and the guy who lost the money isn’t even a small NFT investor. Franklin Caldwell, an NFT whale who goes by the name franklinisbored on Twitter, lost about $150,000 trying to make a stupid prank bid on an ENS domain.

Franklin attempted to get a 100 WETH bid on an ENS domain to be tweeted by the EnsBidsBot account. Franklin may have had an ulterior motive mock such automated Twitter accounts.

Then using another wallet, the owner of 58 Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs minted the ENS domain “stop-doing-fake-bids-it’s-honestly-lame-my-guy.eth.”

On its own registered ENS domain, Franklin had self-bid. In addition, he received a bid of 1.9 ETH, or about $2,890. Franklin accepted the offer, calling it “the most surprising 1,891 ETH I’ve ever made.”

Although he quickly agreed to the new offer, Franklin failed to revoke his own 100 WETH offer from his other wallet, meaning the offer was still active.

The buyer took advantage by buying the ENS address from Franklin for $2,890 and selling it back to Franklin’s other wallet for $150,000.

So in conclusion the person put in 100 WETH and returned the domain name to Franklin Caldwell.

He went on to say that he had sufficient time to withdraw the offer and had not been “botted”. Franklin claimed that he had returned 1.9 ETH to the individual in the vain hope that they would also return the entire supply.

In response, the seller, who uses the Twitter handle @8892OS, tweeted, “I ripped this guy off for 100eth and he only sent me 1.9 more?”

Franklin later apologized for the market manipulation he did in the ENS market. “Hopefully I paid enough reparation. I’m sorry I let you down. “My BAYC trading habits are not market manipulation, but I apologize if it hurts the community,” he tweeted.

Part of the community sent encouraging messages to Franklin to cheer him up, while the other half began to drag him for making a joke of the NFT space and not taking it seriously.
