megs.io NFT artist interview | NFT CULTURE | NFTs and crypto art

Can you tell us about your background and what led you down the path to becoming an artist and eventually experimenting with NFTs?

As a tradigital artist, the transition to NFTs was ultimately an easy decision to make. Shortly after Covid hit and we went into lockdown the bad news of all the cancellations of gallery shows that were scheduled to come in started. It became painfully clear that the new restrictions on everyday life were going to bring the traditional art world to a screeching halt. For a while I continued as I had been making physical work based on digital design, expanding with collections that I hope to show when the world is right again. This was until a friend got me interested in NBA Top Shots, before this I had never heard the term NFT.

Once I had bought my first packs and started to understand what an NFT was I was hooked, I knew there must be a whole world of NFTs out there that I didn’t know about. That’s when I discovered the art side of digital ownership, and in January 2021 I went all in on NFT art.

When did you make your first NFT? Which platform did you choose and why?

I minted my first NFT in February 2021, for this I chose Rarible. It was really either Rarible or Opensea and I wasn’t really sure about the process yet so it was just a 50/50 decision as to where I wanted to risk ruining my first coins.

Can you tell us one thing you can’t live without? (and why)

ice, for obvious reasons.

Who is your favorite artist(s) (Not NFT)? What about their style resonates with you

A list of my favorite artists would be far too exhaustive to try to name them all, and it would be a disservice to just name a few. I have no allegiance to any style, time period, place or subject. I know what resonates when I see it. Art that claps, just claps.

But having said that, Caravaggio.

Who is your favorite NFT artist? What makes this artist unique?

Timcet – @eliapelle ; His skills are out of control. His style has all the elements of rich classical works, but there is an undeniably futuristic through line to all his pieces that boggles your mind all the way into the future. As a transhumanist and futurist, I find that extremely appealing.

Favorite piece: The Golden Firmness – The Queen

What made you pursue NFT art?

adversity and intrigue

What is the one NFT you wish you had bought but missed out on

Easy; The Last Stand of the National State – Slime Sunday

What are your other passions besides art? Why?

Religion, history, politics, technology, human nature. I find it a struggle to understand theory of mind and other people. Seeing humanity through a longer lens and observing the evolving attitudes and motivations of people over time helps me glimpse what I don’t seem to intuitively know. (In every way, these interests are also inextricably linked to my art)

And Hester. I love horses.

How did you arrive at your specific style?

Honestly, my style is all over the place. That is the message conveyed by the work where I spend most of my time on contemplation and development.

What is coming in the near future?

More art.

If you could collaborate with one artist, who would it be?

Grimace. Both in the areas where we agree and disagree there is beauty to be found, and I think important work can come from that.

What was your biggest failure and what did you learn from it?

My biggest failure is being right about people too early, and I’m learning to shut up.

What is your biggest piece sold

Due to the diversity and barrier-free nature of the web3 space, I was able to connect with Joel Zimmerman (Deadmau5) while in the Nifty Gateway Discord. He saw one of my physical pieces called “Fratelli Tutti”, connected to it and picked it up right away. Although the piece is a large painting and not an NFT, it is worth mentioning because it shows how unique and unexpected this room is.
