Layer-1 Blockchain Protocol Zilliqa Launches First-Person Shooter Game ‘Web3War’

Quick take:

  • Web3War has a AAA level approach to game development.
  • The game runs on a skills-to-earn game model.
  • Players can win rewards depending on their skill level.

Layer-1 blockchain protocol, Zilliqa, today announced the name of its first-person shooter (FPS), Web3War. It is Zilliqa’s first ever Web3 game entering the blockchain gaming space.

According to WePC’s video game industry statistics, the industry was estimated to be worth $178.7 billion in 2021, an increase of 14.4% from 2020, with some estimates predicting the market size to reach $268 billion by 2025.

Emergen Research statistics also show that FPS games are the most popular in eSports, a thriving market for the Zilliqa community. In March, the blockchain protocol brought in three new eSports and gaming partners – Indonesia-based RRQ, Spain-based MAD Lions and Sweden’s Ninjas in Pajamas – to implement Web3-powered solutions including tokenization, NFTs and metaverse activations.

In April, Zilliqa joined the Blockchain Game Alliance (BGA) as the blockchain protocol makes a play for the gaming market. To appeal to the gaming community, Web3War focuses on gameplay and intuitive design, making it easy to pick up, play and enjoy right from the start.

Alongside a AAA-level approach to game development, the team has adopted the skill game model rather than the more common play-to-earn model. This model allows players to win rewards in the form of custom items and tokens secured by the Zilliqa blockchain, depending on their skill level.

By implementing a skill-based reward system in a AAA-level interface, Web3War allows players of all levels to collect income commensurate with the time they spend in it. Players can also purchase in-game tokens and digital items in the form of customizable shells such as armor, helmets or weapons for a player’s character.
