Miami-born artist Jason Seife will present his first solo exhibition in the United States at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) on May 18, 2023. The exhibition, titled “Coming to Fruition,” features brand new site-specific works, including a custom wallpaper, triptych and a large-scale canvas.

Seife’s work centers around his Middle Eastern heritage, referencing Persian carpets and the intricate details found in mosques and traditional Islamic art. He digitally designs his rug-inspired compositions, mirroring the weavers’ practice of associating patterns or colors with specific places and communities. Seife then hand paints these intricate patterns onto a concrete slab or canvas.

For my upcoming exhibition “Coming To Fruition” I will show artworks in various stages of my creative process, including two concrete triptychs where the painting is shown through three different stages of completion. Highlights the signature and process of a work of art coming to fruition. From idea to execution.

For “Coming to Fruition”, Seife will present his elaborate process in the middle of the action, blurring the line between artistic process and finished product. The exhibition will feature two triptychs revealing the development of his paintings, from initial stages and minimal paint on the concrete to intricately painted finished products. Accompanied by an additional finished painting on canvas, the triptychs are surrounded by labyrinthine wooden frames that seem to seep out of the paintings and onto the walls, as if taking over the gallery’s interior.

The site specificity of “Coming to Fruition” allows Seife to present a secular sanctuary, where visitors can meditate on human desecration, community building, and complicated identities. The exhibition is organized by PAMM assistant curator Maritza Lacayo, and ongoing support for PAMM’s project galleries from the Knight Foundation is gratefully acknowledged.
