It looks like 2023 will be a good year for Blockchain Gaming

On Thursday, DappRadar dropped its 2022 overview of the blockchain gaming industry.

The review highlights some interesting trends from last year that are likely to define 2023. It includes an increase in on-chain transactions and the number of unique active wallets.

According to DappRadar, games make up almost half of the on-chain activity in the Dapp industry.

In addition, the number of on-chain game transactions reached 7.4 billion, an increase of 37% from the previous year. Since 2020, gaming transactions on the chain have increased by 3,260%.

Polygon was one of this year’s big winners, with an average of 97,384 dUAW. A 338.37% increase in UAW from 2021. The Ethereum sidechain has also had a great start to 2023. This week it announced that Web3 gaming platform Fractal will be expanding to its network. Another bullish sign for Tier 1.

With 235,499 unique active wallets (dUAW) on average in 2022, Splinterlands remains the most popular game. Furthermore, the gaming dapp had over 1 million transactions every month, which means that each Unique Active Wallet performed five transactions on average every month. However, since changing the game economy and reward system in August, dapp experienced a drop in game activity, ending the year with 157,681 dUAW.

Sara Gherghelas, a Blockchain Research Analyst for DappRadar, told BeInCrypto that she expects more innovation in the blockchain gaming industry in 2023.

“One of the most exciting trends to watch for is the potential for in-game DAO economies. The introduction of Syndicates into Alien Worlds’ metaverse earlier this year has opened up new opportunities for players to engage in decentralized governance and voting mechanisms, which can create a more engaging and community-driven gaming experience.โ€

The blockchain gaming industry is likely to focus more on its poor UX problem in 2023. โ€œWith ease of access to wallets a major obstacle for many first-time users, we can expect to see more solutions that combine ease of setup with security, making the experience of play blockchain-powered games more seamlessly and user-friendly.โ€
