Invariable co-founder says 2 AAA game studios have begun development on the NFT platform

Immutable Co-founder Robbie Ferguson says 2 triple-A game studios have started development on the NFT platform.

The NFT movement has caught the eye of major developers with the likes of Ubisoft and Square Enix either researching or working with the new technology frontier. Now it appears that two AAA game studios have actually started development on the Immutable X platform.

On September 13, 2022, Immutable co-founder Robbie Ferguson announced that two AAA studios have begun building on the Immutable X platform. Ferguson notes that the first game will be announced within a month. This means that by mid-October we should have confirmation of which triple-A developer is entering the NFT movement.

Previously, Immutable X and GameStop teamed up to form an NFT marketplace partnership. GameStop’s marketplace has seen some movement, with artists like The Derevolution music artists making three years worth of streaming revenue in three days on the platform. Although currently resonating with users, GameStop stated in an SEC filing that digital asset wallet and NFT marketplace revenue was not material to its Q2 2022 results.

In the case of Immutable and game developers, NFTs created on the platform can be bought and sold on any marketplace created on the system. We could see a case where an in-game minted NFT is sold on the GameStop NFT Marketplace. Alternatively, the game itself can be an NFT that can be resold. Time will tell what we are dealing with here.
