CZ speaks virtually at the Blockchain Hub in Davos

CZ answered several rounds of personal questions, gave his take on the sobering events of 2022, took questions from the audience and more!

Binance CEO Speaks to the Davos Crowd

Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) spoke virtually for Blockchain Hub at Davos 2023 with Medha Parlikar from Casper Labs.

CZ joined Parlikar for half an hour on January 18 for a fireside chat titled “Blockchain’s Tipping Point is Here.” The conversation went into several topics like the current state of crypto and how to build, plus Parlikar pulled out some personal questions to learn more about the man CZ. The audience also had time to ask CZ some questions and pick his brain a bit.

Parlikar opened up with a joke about CZ’s hair, but quickly circled back to more serious topics. Against the backdrop of the bear market and the sobering realities of the various titanium industry collapses in 2022, CZ reminded the audience to go back to basics, push R&D aside and go back to basics to be safe and reliable.

“There are three parts to building trust,” CZ explained to the crowd. “We are in an industry where we can use technology that is trustless. We can [also] be more transparent, proof of reserves, Merkle trees […], and the third is building trust over time. If we can consistently show that we are reliable […] we can earn users’ trust over time.”

Parlikar got CZ to open up personally about several topics. For example, CZ doesn’t listen to too much music. He admitted to seeing Akon live in concert, being a fan of Weekend, and also the Korean band Black Pink. He says he loves all musicians who like crypto.

When asked about his favorite food, CZ said he loves all food. He loves food from cultures all over the world and particularly noted his love for carbohydrates. CZ also admitted that he loves his mother’s cooking, even though she may not be that good.

For hobbies, CZ loves snowboarding — adding that he went to Switzerland to board twice in December — and hanging out with friends where he can go out for drinks and socialize.

One of CZ’s other passions is traveling and learning about other cultures. He said his job does not allow him to visit tourist spots despite his constant movement around the world. He goes from hotel to event to hotel to plane. He wants to relax on the beach in a place like Bora Bora and see ancient sites in Peru and Mexico.
