Crypto Corner: The Sports Slice

Sports and crypto found a slower week as the playing field hosts all the newsworthy action in the past week. In American sports, baseball is coming to an end, the NBA and NFL seasons are in early to mid-swing, and the NHL playoffs are approaching.

However, from a crypto perspective, all eyes seem to be on the World Cup. Hosted in Qatar, it is an official crypto sponsor and expected digital engagement around the corner. To what extent we will see. In the meantime, we’ll dive into all of last week’s sports and crypto activity with The sports disc.

Hasbro’s new NBA toys with NFT collectibles

It was about six weeks ago that we highlighted a new NFT integration around physical collectibles featuring Hasbro’s NBA action figures as part of our regular Sports Slice coverage. These action figures will hit the market by the holiday season it seems, as pre-orders have opened for the initial eight figures.

Visa’s new World Cup NFTs

Visa is rolling out a new ‘Masters of Movement’ NFT collection in the build-up to the upcoming World Cup. Visa’s new release, in collaboration with Crypto.com, is a release centered around art inspired from five spectacular targets.

Both Visa and Crypto.com are official partners with the World Cup in Qatar starting later this month. The first bidding for this release ends on Tuesday, November 8. All proceeds go to the British charity Street Child United.

The release also leads up to FIFA’s Fan Festival, which is expected to allow fans to create digital art based on their own movement on an interactive pitch.

Tom Brady’s Autograph.io and Tyrese Haliburton launch video podcast

It’s been quite a story for both Tom Brady and Tyrese Haliburton in their own respective rights this past year. Brady has faced comments about life on and off the field, while Haliburton had a difficult reality to face when he was traded from Sacramento to Indiana in the offseason. However, Brady’s Autograph.io platform — known for securing deals with some of the biggest sports stars on the planet — has brought Haliburton on board for a new podcast, “Autograph Presents: Get Minted with Tyrese Haliburton.”

Last week’s debut episode featured Autograph board member Tony Hawk, and upcoming episodes are expected to include the likes of Eva Longoria Bastón and Charli D’Amelio.
