Changing the ‘NFT Profile Picture’ will remove the blue tick for Twitter

Changing the ‘NFT Profile Picture’ will remove the blue tick for Twitter

Back in January 2022, Twitter announced a way for users to showcase their NFT collection. All they needed to do was connect their crypto wallet to Twitter.

Once they do, a hexagonal border instead of a circle appears around their profile picture, and other users can click on the picture for information about the associated NFT.

This can be seen in the official Twitter Blue account profile:

This feature is only available to Twitter Blue subscribers and became quite popular among the user base due to the high interest in NFT at the time.

However, following the re-launch of the latest Twitter Blue, changing profile pictures will result in the tick being lifted, followed by a review, according to the official statement:

When you subscribe to Twitter Blue, changes to your profile picture, display name or username (@handle) will result in the loss of the blue badge until the account is validated as continuing to meet our requirements, and no further changes will be allowed during this time the review period.

Changing NFT profile picture removes blue Twitter badge

The same happens in the case of NFT PFPs as well. Users say that after changing the NFT profile picture, it pulls back the Twitter Blue badge (1,2,3,4,5,6,7).

Some Twitter users like to change their profile pictures on a regular basis. However, this removes their blue tick until the account is validated.

This is due to a new Twitter Blue subscription rule which states that any change to a profile picture, including NFT PFPs, results in the removal of the blue badge.

This has angered several Twitter Blue users, who believe they have already paid to be able to show off their NFTs. However, this new rule restricts them from changing it periodically.

Users request an exception to this policy for NFT profile pictures, as they are required to undergo a new review for validation each time they change them.

@elonmusk @verified I signed up a long time ago on Twitter blue because I can use NFTs as a profile picture. I change them often. Now my Twitter verified is gone for a moment because I used Twitter blue NFT profile picture. A paid service. I believe that should not be the case with NFT

Yes, I am waiting for my blue badge to return. I understand changing names, but that should not apply to changing PFPs

While some understand the rationale behind untickling the name change, it should not apply to NFT PFPs.

Elon Musk has always tried to address Twitter users’ complaints, so we hope he can do it again and give them more freedom with NFT PFPs.

We will keep an eye on this case and update this story to reflect any notable information.
