With the rise of digital art and the popularity of NFTs, the art world is changing. Some claim that NFTs are saving the art world, while others believe that they are destroying it. It’s been three years since the launch of Crypto Kitties, the game that (for better or for worse) put non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, on the map. In that time, we’ve seen a lot of excitement and experimentation around this new technology, but also a fair amount of disillusionment. Some have proclaimed NFTs to be little more than a fad, while others believe they hold great promise but have yet to reach their true potential.

I fall into the latter camp and think NFTs have great potential, but so far we’ve only scratched the surface of what’s possible. For NFTs to really take off, we need to see more high quality art and content being created specifically for this new medium. When it comes to digital art and content, quality has always been important. But it’s even more important with NFTs because there’s so much more riding on them.

With traditional digital art, you can create something just for fun or as a way to express yourself; if it’s popular, great, but if not, no big deal. However, with NFTs, there is a financial incentive to create popular content since you can make money selling your creations. This creates a bit of a chicken-and-egg problem: for artists and creators to be motivated to produce high-quality art for NFTs, there needs to be enough demand for it in the first place. And for there to be demand, quality art must be available. It’s a difficult cycle to break out of, but it’s essential if we want to see NFTs reach their full potential. (Of course, there are different use cases for NFTs, such as utility tokens, etc. But we discuss NFTs for digital art in this article).

So how do we raise the bar when it comes to NFT art and content? More platforms must appear that focus on quality rather than quantity. Right now there are too many platforms that allow anyone and everyone to upload whatever they want without any kind of control process. This causes a lot of low quality art and content to fill the space and makes it difficult for people looking for quality stuff to find what they are looking for.

If we want people to take NFTs seriously as an artistic medium, we need platforms that carefully curate their content and showcase only the best of the best.

It is undeniable that NFT has created a new era of digital art. NFTs are digital assets stored on a blockchain, and they can represent anything from a piece of art to a tweet.
