Brave automatically launches NFT pinning

Brave automatically launches NFT pinning

According to recent reports, Brave has launched automatic NFT pinning, which allows users to securely store the metadata of NFTs in Brave’s wallet. The goal is to provide security to the data and easy access to FVM on top of Filecoin EVM.

The original launch dates back to May 2, 2023, when the update actually appeared, citing that the goal is to support the adoption and development of a decentralized web worldwide. Brave registered over 57 million users at the beginning of May 2023. There is a good chance that the number of users has increased and a larger section can access the automatic NFT pinning mechanism.

To clarify, pinning here refers to informing IPFS (Interplanetary File System) of indefinite storage of metadata in a specific location. The file remains available at the user’s convenience. The whole point is to spread even the risk of losing data by storing it in multiple locations. Therefore, resilience improves in the long term.

Brian Bondy, co-founder and chief technology officer at Brave, highlighted in the previous announcement that the development allows a user to access the feature with just a few clicks to ensure that the information is continuously available within the framework.

Users do not need to have any knowledge of the mechanism. Regardless of background, the feature benefits everyone by allowing them to save the metadata and reduce the risk of losing it forever. One needs to enable IPFS to proceed with the process. Not all NFTs may be eligible for automatic attachment.

It is important to note that NFTs do not gain any additional layer of security, but the data is held across networks through a distributed set of copies. Pinning is accessible for Ethereum-based ERC-721 tokens. There are plans in the pipeline to expand its reach to include more chains and tokenization standards in the coming days.

Making this interesting is the fact that automatic NFT pinning can also be performed by wallet addresses unrelated to Brave. Other addresses outside Brave’s own portfolio can be connected by manually mentioning token details. Brave Wallet will then display and back up the NFT.

Bold announcement of automatic NFT pinning complements efforts to simplify access to FVM, short for Filecoin Virtual Machine, on top of Filecoin EVM.

Brave previously announced cooperation with Transak with the aim of expanding crypto purchases worldwide by integrating more payment methods and having 50 new assets. This particular update goes back to the closing days of May 2023 and informs the community that the integration is across Polygon, BNB Chain, Ethereum and Arbitrum, along with Optimism.

This gives users more options to buy and deposit tokens according to their preferences. Brian expressed his excitement about the development, saying that it gives users more options to buy cryptocurrencies with more payment methods. The automatic NFT pinning is now available for users of Brave on desktop versions, offering a unique experience on the web.
